Houston Parks Board Opportunities

Welcome back to the Spring 2013 Semester!  Hope you had a relaxing break.

Below is information regarding the Houston Bayou Greenways Project.  There may be some ways to connect this project to public history, or just be able to get involved with this project.  Thought some of you might be interested.

Houston Parks Board and UH

Houston Parks Board is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating, improving, protecting and advocating for parkland in the greater Houston area.  This spring we're working to connect and expand the bayou park trails throughout the city.  A big part of the Houston Bayou Greenways project is building a bridge from UH to Brays Bayou that runs through the south side of campus, as well as increasing the green space and parkland along that bayou.

This spring we'll be working with UH students both on and off campus in an exciting campaign to promote the Bayou Greenways and ensure that City Council stays committed to implementing the project.  We have a variety of internship and volunteer opportunities available!

Get involved and learn valuable skills such as:
-running a press conference and media visibility events
-developing letters to the editor and op-eds
-lobbying elected officials
-training and managing a group of volunteers in community outreach
-coalition building and community networking
-event planning and publicity
-public speaking
-leadership development

UH students are a critical part of our effort this spring, and anyone and everyone can get involved!  Internships may satisfy some course requirements.  For more information, questions or comments, please fill out this form.  You can also contact me directly at charley@parksbyyou.org or 716-870-4555.
